Abstract: Getting kids interested in learning to program is a challenge, but using games, colorful graphics and fun sounds/animations is a good approach. Kids learn concepts like actors (objects), behaviors, events, properties, and we also provide the ability to write custom JavaScript code for the more advanced kids. The Popfly Game Creator is a good on-ramp to programming tool that can help teach basic programming constructs in a visual, non-intimidating setting. Popfly is an online, free tool – no installation necessary.
