| Title: | Bits & Bytes: Lesson 5 Life before Mice |
| Authors: | Microsoft |
| Keywords: | programming concepts GUI Human-Computer Interaction |
| Issue Date: | Mar-2007 |
| Publisher: | Microsoft |
| Abstract: | "Before the development of Graphic User Interfaces (GUI) in operating systems such as Microsoft Windows and programs such as Microsoft Office or Internet Explorer, computer users communicated with computers through unnatural and unfriendly exchanges.
Today, it's pretty much a given that using a computer means interacting with a graphical interface. We launch programs with a click on an icon, arrange the view with click and drag actions, and directly manipulate the contents of our work by pointing and selecting.
This lesson explores human-computer interaction and the components of graphical user interfaces (GUI). You'll also learn some best practices for designing GUI applications." |
