| Abstract: | This set of pdf files is from the National Center for Women in Information Technology can be used to present a compelling case for changing the approach to teaching CS. These changes are relevant not only to females but also males and to underrepresented groups in general. Ideas include relevance of problems, more explicit role-modeling, collaborative learning including pair programming and creating an inclusive classroom climate. Information about the Media Computation course at Georgia Tech as a first course, statistics about women in IT, evidence of the value of CS at the high school level and ideas for recruiting females are included. |
